About Robert L. "Bob" Reid
On Feb. 4, 2012, Heaven gained the most amazing man. Robert L. “Bob” Reid, 74, of Amarillo, TX, left the constraints of this world with his loving daughter Kristen, by his side, holding his hand, telling him how much she loved him. He was a Father of one, Pepaw of 4.
Bob was the essential “Army Brat” and graduated high school in Frankfurt, Germany. Enlisting in the Army in April 1955, and won Regular Army Competitive Appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point in 1958. Graduated USMA in 1962, commissioned in the Field Artillery. Served as Asst. Professor of Physics at West Point. Served two tours in Vietnam and retired in 1976 as Major.
He was Chairman of the Laser/Optics Dept at TSTI-Amarillo, retiring in 1992, and went on to work at Pantex as Training Officer for the Dept. of Energy, retiring in 1997.
Bob was a former member of the Downtown Lions Club and Canyon Country Club. He loved to travel across the US and Canada in his RV and loved to play golf. This was one of the main things he missed when he was robbed of his arms by ALS.
